Title: Dealing with distributed projects

Host: Lars Bendix, Department of Computer Science

Distributed development is said to add a new layer of problems because of distance in place, time and culture. Configuration Management can be seen a general support function for development projects, so it is no surprise that we (CM) should deal with (some of) these issues. However, even though we (CM) would like to save the whole world, there may be problems in distributed development that are not related to CM and should be solved in other ways.

The purpose of this CMCM is to identify and discuss what special issues distributed development has and to distinguish those that are related to the domain of Configuration Management. Furthermore, we will discuss to what extent the CM-related problems are different or have to be solved in different ways than similar problems in traditional co-located development.
