Title: Is CM all about minimizing risks or are there other benefits?

When defining the benefits of implementing or improving the CM routines, I almost always end up in a risk discussion. I seems like most people think of CM as one way of minimizing the risk of reoccurring errors, the risk of system inconsistency, the risk of loosing track of deliveries, the risk of... Well, the list tends to be quite voluminous after a while.
I'd like to discuss what positive effects good CM work gives in a development organization rather than what negative effects we can avoid.
