Title: SCM, software development - and Coronavirus...

Denmark seems to be one of the countries that has been hit only relatively lightly by Covid-19. It turns out that in particular three simple measures have had a big influence on that (besides being able to learn from "early adopters" like Italy). They are all very simple, do not require draconic laws or lock-down of all activity: good hand hygiene, social distancing, and coughing in your elbow-pit (instead of your hands).

Software development has "similar problems" - aka bugs (or issues) - draconic (and very expensive) measures (extensive testing / code reviews) to counter those problems.

Could some of the "experiences learned" from the Coronavirus be ported to the software development domain - and could Software Configuration Management provide some of the solutions/cures/vaccine?

SCM is not responsible for bugs not getting to the users - QA is. However, SCM is responsible for tools and processes that might be able to help QA - since we provide the infrastructure that supports the collaboration on and exchange of "artefacts".

I do not want to discuss the Coronavirus pandemic or how it has been handled by different countries.

What I do want to discuss is software development problems/challenges and SCM solutions - with inspiration from the pandemic (and Semmelweis). For example: "social distancing: what could that correspond to in software development? What is the root cause? How could SCM help address that?"

This CM Coffee Meeting is a continuation of a previous CMCM in Italian. Italians are very welcome also at this CMCM, but presentation and discussions will be in English this time.
