Title: SCM and microservices

Host: Lars Bendix - Computer Science, Lund University

For a long time I have been telling my students that if they end up being configuration managers in a project with variants, they must insist on being involved in the planning from the start. Planned the right way, handling variants is difficult, but certainly possible - handled the wrong way it will become next to "mission impossible".

What about a project using a microservice architecture? Would you, as a configuration manager, handle that in the same way as any other project? If yes, why? If no, why not? What are the problems with a microservice architecture from an SCM point of view? What is it that people are struggling with for handling "configurations" in a microservices architecture? What could be our (SCM) requests/requirements for how to best organize, structure and work with a microservice architecture?

In this CMCM, I would like to explore more in detail the relations between SCM and microservice architectures. What impact does a microservice architecture have on the way that SCM can/should be carried out? What is it that the development organization can reasonably expect from us? And where is it that they are just dreaming (and we are left with the nightmare)?

Presentation and discussions will be in Italian.

Registration is mandatory by email to Lars Bendix (bendix@sneSCM.org).
