Half-day tutorial on SCM,
Lund, Sweden

As preparation for the Scandinavian SCM day, we are now offering a half-day tutorial on the foundation for SCM.
The tutorial is intended for those who want an introduction to the terminology used in SCM and an understanding
of the fundamental concepts and principles in SCM. Attending the tutorial will improve your outcome of the
discussions at the SCM day if you feel that you might lack the necessary background.
Motivation/Purpose:
- to establish a common, shared vocabulary for sneSCM.org
- to give "auto-didact" people a theoretic framework for the SCM day
- to give basic education for people who want to enter the SCM world
Format:
- half a day - 13:00-17:00
- only on-site participation
- preparation work to be done before the tutorial
- plenty of discussions and feedback at the tutorial
- certificate of participation awarded based of passed assignments and active participation???

- free - a sneSCM.org community service

Number of participants:
- max. 12 people and min. 6 people (you'll be notified no later than October 13 if the tutorial will run or not)
Learning objectives:
After the tutorial the participant will:
- understand the root causes of coordination problems
- understand some important versioning concepts and principles
- understand some basic coordination strategies
- know some basic CM concepts
- be able to use a version control tool
- know the traditional SCM activities
- know some central SCM concepts and their use
Course contents:
- Shared Data, Double Maintenance, Simultaneous Update
- Workspace, repository and versioning
- Concurrency check and branch and merge
- Locking, copy-merge, split-combine, (strict) long transactions
- Baseline, traceability, software bill of materials
- Configuration identification (CI + CMDB)
- Configuration status accounting
- Configuration change control (CR + CCB)
- Configuration audit
- Software bill of material, baseline, traceability
Workload:
- preparation before tutorial: 12-15 hours of homework
- active participation in the tutorial: 4 hours
- assignment after tutorial: 10 hours
