The history of sneSCM

sneSCM.org has come a long way since its start.

Born in late 2001 out of the combination of a handful of researchers at Computer Science at Lund University and the solid Swedish tradition for "fika" they created an informal "forum" where they could discuss interesting questions regarding Software Configuration Management - that created many good and fruitfull discussions.

It was extended "formally" to the whole software engineering research project and informal, random, casual meetings in the lunchroom was no longer possible - so the Configuration Management Coffee Meetings (CMCM) had to be "scheduled" and the first "formal" call was for on October 3rd 2002.

Later local industry (primarily Sony-Ericsson and ABB in the beginning) started to join the CMCMs - in spring 2004 a PhD course in SCM was held with participation from local industry - and on October 19th, 2005 the first Scandinavian SCM day took place. The first formal CMCM in this extended academia-industry network was on March 15th, 2006 - involving more and more people from industry, but unfortunately also less and less people from academia.

Over the summer of 2014 the network was extended with an Italian chapter and the first Italian SCM summit on October 27th, 2014 in Parma.

We are currently (May 2024) at 91+ CMCMs, 18 Scandinavian SCM days and 16 Italian SCM summits. We have 480 people on the main sneSCM mailing list, plus another 398 people in the Italian chapter - and 443 people in our LinkedIn group.
